In addition to melt runoff to rivers and waterfalls, glaciers can also flow down to the sea where the ice “calves” off into large chunks. For a sense of scale, the dark spots at the edge of the water are Harbor Seals. Eventually, the ice is carried from this lagoon out to sea by the retreating tide. Also of note is that the water depth at the face of the glacier has been measured at 750’… the depth of the ice to bedrock.
